I feel awful that many just associate River Phoenix with his tragic death. He made a mistake but he was more than drug use. He stood for animal rights, the world getting better, everyday people, gay rights, equality for all races, native americans, blacks… he was an outstanding actor & a great musician too. One of the best in his craft, a wonderful actor as a child til his adulthood. It’s unfortunate, really is. I been thinking that recently. I see alot of people call him a hypocrite for talking of vegetarianism while he did drugs yet he wasn’t a vegan for his health, but because he cared about animals… and since when was telling others the other healthy options being a hypocrite? Wanting to save others while hurting yourself is hypocritical perhaps but some care about others and forget to take care of themselves. I think instead of thinking of his tragic ending, channels should make biographies showcasing the whole of him, not just making countdowns for the tragedy.

I don’t want to get so lost in thinking about me and talking about me that all the time in interviews. It’s so nice to unwind and just look at other things and get out of yourself. It’s hard to detach myself from myself without neglecting myself. You know what I mean? I don’t want to get in to the habit of thinking about my career because when it comes down to it, it’s not really that important. I could die tomorrow and the world would go on!” - River Phoenix

You know that 90s pop duo Alisha’s Attic… I think someone somewhere in the record business took some ‘inspiration’ from River Phoenix’s band Aleka’s Attic. Ok, ok, so there can be more than one band with Attic in their title… but seeing their logo made me think um, coincidence, perhaps not! Then even more thoughts of… suspicion came when I read the meaning behind their bands name
The “Alisha” referred to in the group’s name is a fictional character created by Shelly and Karen, based on an imaginary childhood friend of Shelly’s. “Attic” is a reference to the attic studio belonging to a composer friend, Terry Martin, where they originally recorded demos
“Aleka is a poet philosopher,” River said. “The Attic is a meeting place where he lives and he has a secret society. They come and visit him and read his works. He then dies and they meet irregularly and continue the readings of his works, and from that learn their own, and become filled with this new passion for life. And they express it through music and form a band. We’ve put it in a fairytale setting.”
Alisha’s Attic were a band from 1996 - 2001, and Aleka’s Attic were a band from the late 80s, 88ish until 1993 when River passed away. Hmmph. What do you guys think?
BTW Alisha’s Attic fans, I’m not dissing them but I just think it’s quite an interesting thing.

It was great and painful. River was very uncomfortable with this role, you know? He’s such a free spirit, really was a hippie at heart. And so soulful, and had to play THIS marine. And he was so uncomfortable, and he was young so I don’t think he understood like what the hell was going on… like, he was kind of leaking out in weird ways because he was like under the control of this marine, you know? And I’ve noticed guys sometimes have a harder time, if they’re playing a role that’s hard… I’ve seen guys have a hard time navigating that uncomfortable terrain.
So River was in a lot of pain actually, but such a beautiful guy and it’s really moving seeing him because I haven’t seen footage of him for a while. He was a real, special, special soul and particularly for a man… a lot of men can’t go there, can’t do what he did. - Lili Taylor, speaking of working with River Phoenix during Dogfight
lmao at the beginning of Running on Empty the guy talking to Danny (River) has been dubbed, which is normal for movies when theres bad sound on location. but the voice is obviously a black guy but some little white dude pops up. lmao!

I think it’s just arrogant for me or any human to suggest radical changes when that’s just not the way things happen. You’re just living in a utopia wannabe land, and I’m a realist about it. For instance, I think the whole issue thing- this issue, that issue, the other issue -is bogus. The environment, for instance, is headlined “The Environmental Issue”. It’s not an issue, The environment was here before we were. We are of the environment, and the environment is what will let all issues live if it lives. It’s so key and it’s so important. And to separate ourselves is ridiculous. To live in denial and say, “Oh, this can’t be; this isn’t right,” that’s also wrong because this is evolution. This is natural. This is happening. I’ve learned to accept that. And to be just as responsible as I can be without being just a neurotic ball of confusion. - River Phoenix
